An Italian poet and one of the most influential writers of the second half of the 20th century. He was born in 1921 in the small town of Pieve di Soligo in the Veneto region, whose landscapes became a central theme in his poetry. In his works, linguistic experiments intersect with an interest in psychoanalysis, mythology, technological shifts, and eco-poetics. He wrote in both standard Italian and the Venetian dialect—Veneto. He was the recipient of numerous Italian and international awards, including the Viareggio and Hölderlin prizes. His poems have been translated into most European languages. He died in 2011.
