Poet, one of the first Spanish surrealists. Born in 1904 in the Spanish province of Málaga. In 1926, he founded the literary journal Litoral together with Manuel Altolaguirre and Emilio Prados. At the same time, he joined the circle of the Generation of '27 (Lorca, Alberti, Aleixandre, Cernuda, and others). Author of the poetry collections Poema del Campo (Poem of the Fields, 1925), Poesía de perfil (Profile Poetry, 1926), La Rosa de los Vientos (The Compass Rose, 1927), Orillas de la luz, and La Flor de Californía (1928). In 1931, due to disagreements with other poets aggravated by his ultra-conservative stance, he abandoned poetic work. In 1936, during the early months of the Spanish Civil War, he was executed by the Republicans.
