Poet, translator, public figure, one of the greatest Belarusian poets of the 20th century. Born in 1912 in the village of Pilkovshchina (now Myadel District, Minsk Region). In 1936, his first collection Na etapakh (On the Stages) was published; during his lifetime, several dozen of his books were published. From 1948 to 1966, he was the editor-in-chief of the journal Polymya (Flame). He translated works by Pushkin and Mickiewicz into Belarusian. Died in Minsk in 1995.
