Poet, prose writer. Born in 1947 in California, where she spent her entire life. She studied at universities in San Diego and Berkeley, then taught poetry and poetics at the University of California, San Diego. In 1978 she published her first book. She received the National Book Critics Circle Award (2009) and the Pulitzer Prize (2010). She is a representative of the Language poetry movement in American poetry. In 2025, SOYAPRESS published a collection of selected poems by Rae Armantrout from 2001–2015, Partly, translated into Russian by Dmitry Kuzmin.
