Literary scholar, researcher of Russian literary erotica and the work of Daniil Kharms. Author of Kniga gor’koy pravdy (The Book of Bitter Truth, 1989), the collection of articles Ne tol’ko o Kharmsе: Ot Ivana Barkova do Aleksandra Kondratova (Not Only about Kharms: From Ivan Barkov to Alexander Kondratov, 2023), and compiler of the anthology Zanaveshennye kartinki. Antologiya russkoy erotiki (Curtained Pictures: An Anthology of Russian Erotica, 2001). Born in 1946 in Leningrad. Graduated from the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature of the Herzen Pedagogical Institute. From 1968 to 1991, he worked in the Manuscripts Department of the State Public Library, whose holdings he illegally supplemented with manuscripts by émigré authors. He took part in preparing the samizdat and tamizdat collection Pamyat’ (Memory). He prepared the first complete collected works of Daniil Kharms in six volumes (1997–2002), the first legal collected works of Ivan Barkov (2004), and a collected edition of the works of Leonid Lipavsky (2005).
