Danish poet, writer, and translator. Born in 1948, he lived in Jutland, in the outskirts of Aarhus. Recipient of the Danish Arts Foundation prize (1999 — a lifelong state grant for literary merit), the Aage Brandt Prize (2004), and the Orestrup Prize (2016). Throughout his life, Nielsen did everything possible to avoid fame — he never appeared in public, never gave poetry readings, and did not attend award ceremonies. His translations include poetry collections by Paul Celan, Tomas Tranströmer, Lars Norén, and Jan Kaplinsky. He died in 2025.
